During his period in Versilia, Giacomo Puccini adored the sea and also the lake. His love for shores and waves along with a great curiosity for innovation matured in himself a great passion for boats.
He simply loved to navigate either on a small boat on the lake Massaciuccoli or cross the ocean on big transatlantic ships for his works abroad. Giacomo Puccini owned various motorboats (including a Ricochet model and others he called " dinghy ”or“ automobile boat ”), a speed boat and even a yacht.
Puccini managed to buy his own yacht thanks to the profits gained from the opera Madama Butterfly and decided to call it Cio Cio San in honor of the protagonist.
