Orrido di Botri is a deep gorge of limestone origin, dug into the body of the mountain thanks to the erosive action of the Rio Pelago. There are many walls carved into the rock, very thick and deep, with a morphology which makes the whole area appear like a real canyon. It is currently recognized as a Nature Reserve, and declared protected since 1971 -located in the municipality of Bagni di Lucca, on the slopes of the Tre Potenze and Monte Rondinaio.
The only access available to visit the quarry is from Ponte a Gaio, crossing the bed of the stream and it is possible to get there only from mid-June to September when the water flow is rather low.
The stream, which enters the inlets, helps to create a very suggestive natural environment, where flora and fauna have found a protected and ideal habitat for many rare botanical and animal species, including the golden eagle.
