From an architectural point of view, Palazzo Guinigi is the last and most sumptuous reworking of the Roman-Gothic house in Lucca, demonstrating the persistence of traditional schemes between the end of the 14th century and the beginning of the 15th century. The Palace is made up of at least four connected buildings, of which the oldest and most emblematic is the tree-lined tower, rebuilt by the Guinigi family from 1300 to 1400. The tower, topped by a garden with four holm oaks, is one of the distinctive elements of Lucca's identity. Every year hundreds of thousands of people visit it, enjoying a splendid view of the city from the top of its 44 metres.
