Chiesa San Lorenzo, Domazzano, Borgo a Mozzano

The church of San Lorenzo in Domazzano is the current parish church of the town, on which it stands in an isolated position. If the town is remembered since 968, the church of San Lorenzo - as well as that of San Donato which stands at the entrance to the town and which shares with the San Lorenzo the familiar name of "Romanesque twins" - was built in its present form during the 12^th century. However, unlike its "twin", the alterations have been remarkable, starting from the loss of the apse: the last intervention of a certain consistency concerns the enlargement operated in 1890. Today the church has a single nave but with a straight end. On the façade, where the original squared-off wall structure is still legible, a simple portal opens with monolithic jambs and a Greek cross on the top. The church contains a valuable 15^th century silver cross. The church of San Lorenzo and that of San Donato were originally dependent on the parish of Diecimo; later they passed under that of Sesto.
